4870 upgrade for skyrim

Hi, this is .. in cases mainly for UK people of the forum Righteo.

I looked at the skyrim specs which came out and the recommended is the 4890... i have the 4870. And on Canyourunit system requirements lab it is the only thing slowing me down.

My current situation is that i need a new graphics card preferably under £100 and second hand via eBay or CeX. Can someone help? I was looking at the 5770 but people are saying it's a useless upgrade. :/ I'm stuck.

5770 isnt that useless of an upgrade in fact its one of the best for budget !
What is your CPU ?

Amd Phenom II x4 955 BE. I'm thinking the 5830 on ebay that's about £80 and i can sell my 4870 for about £40-50 so.. Just not too sure

Ok 5830 is better by a slight performance than 5770 you could also overclock it better than 5770 too !
I think you should go for 5830 then

Ok well now i need to find a 4870 buyer. haha this shall be difficult! Thanks I will eventually overclock. Is a custom GPU cooler a good idea?

Well if you have a good motherboard and want to overclock it a LOT then Yes you should get a good custom GPU cooler

Use CPUID its a freeware program that tells everything about your cpu,gpu,Ram and Motherboard

Why don't you wait and try the game first before changing ur VGA?
Maybe the performance would convice not exchanging the VGA at all.

Well i've always wanted a DX 11 card and now that games are coming out without the 4870 even being above or recommended i think it's time for a small upgrade?
