I think I'll go with GTX 560 Ti .. seems like a best deal for me
December 30, 2011 1:56:45 AM

how much money is on that gift card if you don't mind me asking?

i5 2500k- http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml... 194$ inc. tax i live in CA also

Corsair Vengeance LP 8gb 1600- http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Profile-PC3-128... 46$ 8gb 1600mhz cl9 ram is the standard today

Hyper 212 plus- http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-Sleeve-RR-B10... 21$ unless you are doing some extreme overclocking this should be fine

Silverstone Raven RV03- http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Extended-90-Degree-Mo... 144$ this is a very quiet case. I dont know if the looks will suit your living room though

Intel 320 120gb- http://www.amazon.com/Intel-SATA-2-5-Inch-Solid-State-D... 170$ this is one of the most if not the most reliable ssd's on the market. this isnt a new ssd so it isnt the fastest but they have worked out all of the kinks. hard drive prices are ridiculous right now and ssd's are MUCH faster

Asus P8Z68-V- http://www.amazon.com/Intel-6Gbps-Supported-Motherboard... 170$ 16 phase motherboard. very good overclocker.

EVGA GTX 560 ti- http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Superclocked-Mini-HDMI-Graph... 240$

Corsair tx 750w- http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Enthusiast-Certified-Comp... 105$ nothing wrong with a quality corsair unit. you can sli that 560 ti later with this psu

Total=1090$ tax/ship included

There is around $140 on that gift card .. from choices I have I think i'll pick up PSu from Best Buy .. something like tx 850 v2 ( want to keep enough room for possible sli and oc)
on 2500k + mobo I'll have to wait to see if microcenter offers deal in January

I'm set on Fractal design but thanks for input ( also I don't want windowed case)
Not sure if I can fit SSD as I'll need OS too.
you think hyper 212+ will be enough or should I go with 612 pwm?
December 30, 2011 2:20:42 AM

Also I just read that 2500k with 560ti sli system oced can run on good 650W PSU
The problem is that they usually only have 2 pci-e connectors
December 30, 2011 2:48:36 AM

750w will give enough headroom and it will keep the loads relatively low so the psu should be cool and quiet.
December 30, 2011 2:58:34 AM

how high do you think you will overclock the i5 2500k?
December 30, 2011 3:10:21 AM

probably not higher then 4.5 but would like to try 4.7 .. the problem is that I don't think there is a lot of fps or productivity gain from going from 4.5 to 4.7
so probably 4.5 in reality
December 30, 2011 3:20:44 AM

So far I got in my head
GPU - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/ite... $245 ($20 mir)
case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... $ 118
OS - Win 7 64 bit - $100
Ram - http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-1600MHz-KHX16... $45
PSU - http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Enthusiast-Certified-Comp... $105($ 10mir)
That comes to $613 ($30 mir)
That leaves me with $487 max for 2500k+mobo and cooler
I've decided to put HDD or SSD on best buy gift card
December 30, 2011 3:24:16 AM

now question is ..if I can get cpu-mobo combo for $320 should I drop 560ti for Hd 6970?
I can wait for rebates and then add cooler .. does 2500k comes with stock cooler?

yes it does come with a cooler. what games will you be playing right away?
December 30, 2011 3:40:23 AM

the hyper 212 plus can easily handle 4.5ghz.

also the modular version of that psu is hardly modular at all- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... look at the overview at the bottom and where it says "Cable Ready" there is a small picture showing only 4 modular outputs :(  . definitely not worth any extra money.

December 30, 2011 3:40:28 AM

I think I'll stay with 560ti less power draw
I'd like to play on high settings - Battlefield 3, Metro 2033, Starcraft II, Crysis and other fps like Stalker, Fallout etc
later on Diablo III
December 30, 2011 3:42:55 AM

hm ok so I'll get non-modular then ..
December 30, 2011 3:47:15 AM

ya i have no problems with bf3 on high. on ultra i get the artifacts because i have the stock cooler on my 560 ti. the main problem i am having right now is a lot of driver failures. maybe you should look into a 6950 2gb. I know the 6950 beats the 560 ti on metro. bf3 is pretty even. crysis leans toward the 6950. the 6950's power draw is similar to the 560 ti so a 750w psu is still fine.
December 30, 2011 3:50:48 AM

But I've heard they heat up much more .. plus 560ti can oc like crazy .. and that twin frozr is the beast in cooling
December 30, 2011 3:54:00 AM

i guess. I dont know it is really a coin flip :??:
December 30, 2011 4:06:20 AM

same controller.

the 6950 uses less power- http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-...
im pretty sure they used the stock cooler on the 6950 that would account for the higher amount of noise. amd cards come with worse cooler than nvidia i.m.o.

its your choice in the end though. you cant go wrong with either one

December 30, 2011 4:16:59 AM

btw that ram that you have is 1.65v. sandy bridge prefers 1.5v. the stuff that i listed is fine.
December 30, 2011 4:26:09 AM

oh yeah I know that .. missed it
ok I'll think about gpu .. I guess the rest is decided
will update list tonight
December 30, 2011 7:17:12 AM

So far I got in my head updated
GPU - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/ite... $245 ($20 mir)
case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... $ 118
OS - Win 7 64 bit - $100
Ram - http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Profile-PC3-128... $47
SSD - http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Force-2-5-Inch-Solid-CSSD... $181 ($30)

PSU - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Corsair+-+Enthusiast+Series... $120 ( goes on gift card and not included into final price)
That comes to $691 ($50 mir)
That leaves me with $409 max for 2500k+mobo and cooler

I will probably wait for rebates to come ( hopefully :)  ) and then get CPU cooler like 612 pwm or anything better available at that time. I can also always get Hyper 212+ and then take the rest and rebate towards second 560 ti later on :)
Let me know if you guys think there is a better deal.
Thanks
December 30, 2011 2:23:11 PM

Now the question is should I go for 560 ti 448? I know it'll be hard to sli in the future as it's a limited card. Or save money and get second 560ti later on?

I think that is a good idea.
December 30, 2011 2:50:02 PM

Yeah but 448 performs better then 570 when oced. And in couple years I'll just get new gpu
December 30, 2011 4:57:26 PM

December 30, 2011 11:18:46 PM

So
560 Ti 448
fractal design
Corsair ssd, ram and psu ( probably go with hx650 or tx750)
hyper 212+
2500k+mobo

Looks good ? Or would you make any changes ?
December 30, 2011 11:35:00 PM

sounds good. what motherboard do you have in mind?
December 30, 2011 11:43:18 PM

At first I was thinking asus p8z68v-pro/gen 3
But now I guess I'll have to go with something cheaper like gigabyte z68x-ud3
December 30, 2011 11:43:47 PM

Or ud4 if I'm lucky
December 31, 2011 12:09:34 AM

many of the ud3's are being recalled so i would stay away from them for a while.

if you cant stretch for the pro the p8z68-v/gen 3 is a very good motherboard. im 99% sure it has the same number of phases. Im pretty sure it just lacks some of the headers.

December 31, 2011 12:40:15 AM

ok
decided to go with 750TX v2 ... just got it from Best buy :)
December 31, 2011 1:13:46 AM

So from Amazon I got
Hyper 212+
EVGA GTX 560 Ti 448 Classified
Win 7
Corsair Force GT 120 Gb
Corsair vengeance LP 1600 Mhz
Total - $662 ($30 mir)

Also TIM Quantum Thermal Grease - $5

Newegg
Fractal Design Arc Midi - $118

So total so far is - $785
I might have to drop something if I want to get P8z68-v pro and 2500k.
Maybe I swap case for CM rc-692 .. that'll save me $36.
Worst case I'll drop Hyper 212+ and wait for rebate.
December 31, 2011 1:50:22 AM

Should I cut on SSD ?
Not sure where to go from here. I was kinda set on that case.
At the end it all depends on deals at microcenter and available boards.
December 31, 2011 5:01:24 AM

I think I'll just sell my kidney and stick to original build :)
December 31, 2011 6:29:35 AM

Would like an input on a case please
December 31, 2011 2:45:16 PM

Thanks but I don't want window in the case. Thanks for ssds.
December 31, 2011 3:00:16 PM

i would check lian li's cases. many seem to fit your taste and many do not have windows.
