THESE ARE MY COMPUTER specifications
I have a AMD Athlon XP2000+ processor
a 160 gb hard disk
a crt monitor with a refresh rate of 60hz
and in the display adapter properties it shows the graphic memory is somewhat 64mb
and a 32 bit os
i know tht the pc is quite old and i am currently not having much money to spend
in my pc win xp works alright but windows 7 enterprise is a crank
the aero effects dont work and media center also doesnt work well
the computer is good for basic tasks but crashes on even with light gaming the latest game that works is NFS most wanted and almost all the games released after 2005 dont work watching videos is also a bad experience please tell me a upgrade for my pc

i am not a hardcore gamer but atleast such simple things should go on smoothly
and my pc dealer said that win7 wouldnt run on ur pc but even then i bought the enterprise and installed it but most of the feature dont work with the error-Incompaitble video card

Foe the record.. all that was not needed. Just the specs you have and the question you have.

Did notice your RAM in all that.

I would say you can settle for an old 9800GT and see if it works. But i strongly suspect that your PSU is failing.

Cant say. Depends which country you are from. Its a very old card so should be hard to find. But first get a good PSU. Your PSU is dying i think.

To tell you the truth, Go for any "newer" graphics card, heck even an old 8400GS would be a very good choice for what you say you need a computer for. BUT your CPU is VERY VERY old, see if you can afford an AM2 motherboard and a dual core AMD (bit cheaper than Intel chips). Lastly get a new PSU, so the order that you should be looking at is:
New Motherboard and Processor (preferably a dual core)
A new power supply (just about any 400W should do for a nice basic system)
And last but not least, a new Graphics card. Like I said an old 8 series nVidia or an HD2000 series ATI card (motherboard choice will vary between the choice of graphics card) :D

Well the monitor is something I didn't notice. You should change it, for a light gaming video card I would suggest not more than a 17" monitor. If you do want something bigger then a 19" one but you need to lower the settings ingame. (also It should be an LCD or an LED. Best for keeping your eyes from drying out fast while staring at it)

It will never work. Its is an inbuilt command in DOS. So you are not allowed to make folder names with something that is already a keyword.

If you are looking for a complete overhaul then please decide on the budget, your needs and then jump the ship.

The problem with upgrading to an LCD is that it will likely have a higher resolution than your old CRT, and thus strain your system even more than it already is. If budget is such a huge concern then rebuild your core first, and work outwards. It will provide the largest performance gains, and you can work on each level at a time as the budget allows.
1) Power Supply (max 480W unless you are going to go nuts with your build)
As mentioned, this may fix some of your current crashing issues. Also, do not skimp on this. You do not need a lot of watts (300W may even do the trick), but you do want quality as your powersupply is the cornerstone that everything else relies on.
2) Core system (mobo, proc, ram)
$200 gets you a quad core amd APU (which includes graphics), 4GB of ram, and a decent (though basic) mobo. You can go with a cheaper APU but programs are quickly becoming core count dependent instead of core efficancy dependent, and if you are going to wait another 10 years to upgrade then this would be your best 'cheap' bet.
3) Subsystems (Graphics, storage, etc)
the next bottleneck will be your storage system. Getting at least a modern HDD will do wonders for your computer, and even budget SSDs are heaven on earth (no doubt they will come down in price by the time you get to this point). Monitors would normally be in the next section, but frankly yours is a desperate case and should be upgraded at this point. Your APU will have enough horse power to run a modern monitor with your older games. Monitors have a good long life, so splurge on it as you will be staring at it for the next 10-15 years. If you can afford it this is where you would buy your new graphics card if you do more gaming than the APU can handle. But the games you had described should run fine on the APU, it is only newer games that you need something beefy.
4) Peripherals (KMV, CD/DVD/BluRay, speakers)
This is where you would normally upgrade the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Your KMV (keys, mouse, and video/display) tends to last a really really long time (my last keyboard lasted over 10 years of abuse. Have not had the same luck with mice, but my current one is coming up on 5 years), so splurge on them and find something you really like. Computers come and go, but a nice interface can last damn near forever. This would be a good time to get a blue ray player, or DVD burner. Optical drives simply die with use, so buy cheap here. Also, a decent set of speakers, or good pair of headphones really add to a system (one of these days game designers will realize that audio is 9/10ths of video and put more development into that side of things). Speakers/headphones also last forever, so this is another area to splurge.
5) Network (firewall, switch, server/NAS)
Last, but becoming ever more important, is your network. Technology is always becoming decentralized, depending less on specific parts, and more on how well parts communicate with each other. This last step assumes that your financial situation improves and it does not take another 10 years to upgrade, and you begin to branch out to multiple systems. Keep in mind that a system consists of anything from a monster gaming computer, all the way to a modern cell phone.
Priority #1 is protecting everything inside from the outside. A good physical firewall has no replacement. Back in the win2K/XP days I remember catching viruses before I could even install antivirus if I forgot to unplug the network cable. Then came the magic day I bought a good wireless router, and flashed it with an aftermarket OS. The viruses stopped completely, and I have not wasted money or CPU cycles on it sense then. The router cost me $60, but has saved me $50/yr for the last 10 years (And while wireless N look better and better all the time the good old wireless G is fine for the netbook and Wii that use it)! Well worth the investment!
After a firewall is in place, a simple NAS or server is in order. Obviously this is unnecessary if you only have 1 computer, but file sharing becomes exponentially complicated with the number of devices and OS's on the network. If you set you a NAS or server then all the sudden you can store all your files in one place to be accessed by your phone, console, laptops, tablets, computers, or whatever new-fangled piece of tech hits your front door. Only requirements for a home network are RAID 1 or 10 (redundancy), 1000/t ethernet (which is standard now), and the lowest power consuming system that gets the job done. Then slap FreeNAS or Win Home Server on it and enjoy.

Well, I failed to be as long as your original post, but at least I tried! If you cannot afford to redo your machine (what I outlined here would cost $6-700 for computer and interface), consider buying a 3-4 year old used computer from someone. You could pick something up for $200 that would run circles around your current build, and then start on step 4 and repeat as necessary.

As a side note; You can adjust your refresh rate on your monitor. CRTs can actually look pretty good if you set them up in the 80+Hz range. It will stop the eye irritation, and the feeling like you are watching a strobe light at a rave. People are always trying to get rid of their CRTs so you could post on craig's list (or similar site) and get a much nicer CRT for free until you can afford a flat panel. The same could be said for a newer computer system.
