Afternoon,
I'm trying to troubleshoot a motherboard that won't display video.
Here's some details:
EVGA 256-A8-N341-LX GeForce 6200 256MB 64-bit DDR AGP 8X Video Card
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
The CPU is a compatible processor, as this mobo and cpu combo have been running since 2008. Just this past year, it's been sitting in a static bag still mated on a shelf. I haven't lifted the fan to get the specs yet, and newegg order history isn't showing it.
Anyway, I've hit the power, it does the post beep, but no video. A few moments after, four short beeps. When I was troubleshooting, I took out the video card, and heard the one long, three short beeps, and again, a few moments later, 4 short ones. Reinstalled video card, unplugged everything, always the post, then four short beeps. Removed the ram, no beeps. Removed the CPU fan from the mobo plug, and into a PSU plug. Got 5 short beeps. Reset CMOS. Still, 4 short beeps, no video.
Does anyone have any advice for me?

From what ASUS says, 5 short beeps is a cpu problem. depending on the type of bios, 4 beeps could be the CPU overheating (make sure to replace the thermal paste and plug the fan into the CPU port on the MB) or the boards timings are off. Since the board only supports 800 speed DDR2 I am not surprised on the timing issue.

Put 800 speed DDR2 in and it should be fine.

It seem that motherboard is no stranger to the boards here either:

It was a good AM2+ board. Might be time to get a new one.

Thanks for the reply groundrat. I never had a problem with the ram or CPU before, when the computer ran 24/7 as a server. When I took the board out of the case, I left the ram and cpu installed, put it in a static bag, and let it sit. I just now started to put it back together to make a spare storage unit.
It WAS a great board. You are right though, my next step should be to check the CPU temp and replace the thermal paste. Chances are, it's dried out... but as you said, it might be time to junk it.

You know, it could very well be the CR2 battery. I'm going to throw a meter on it later and see if it still has any voltage.

I did cut and paste the wrong order history from Newegg. The RAM installed in this motherboard is DDR2 PC800/6400 which explains the confusion above as to why some thought the RAM I initially posted wouldn't work. Duh.

I hope it's the battery. :)
