AMD build, but upgrade to a 6790 for the same price as your intel build. :)  Just my opinion.

I personally like the amd. Because it is the most upgradeable of the 2. The board is a full atx vs micro so you have more options for cooler and it should run cooler as well also you can strap on a fx chip in the future or a better am3.

The problem with the 6790 is he would have to get a different PSU as well 380 watt may not cut it. It turned into a $550+box. I think it would be better to get the FX-4100 for $100 then for the higher card. I am a big NVIDA fan any way id say go for 550 ti instead of the 5770. And Gskills 1600 8gigs is on sale for the same price as the ram you have selected http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168....

Madchemist the kit you have linked wont be as fast as an FX 4100 build for most games . The intel i3 processors can do better in older games that are not highly threaded , but everywhere else the FX 4100 is faster .

Worse still for your suggestion is that it runs its single RAM stick in single channel and will therefore drop another 6-7% performance across the board

Sadly too the intel mb is a dead end , while the AMD can be used for future generations of processor
and its performance can be lifted by overclocking . The FX 4100 will usually hit 4.6 GHZ even on the stock cooler.
The intel cant be overclocked

you dont need 8 gig of RAM for gaming . It gives no noticeable advantage over 2 x2 gig .

I like that CM 430 case too , but I wouldnt trade off the graphics power to get it . The 6850 is a lot more powerful than the 5770

i3 is not the way to go unless you don't want to play new games coming out well. I5 and I7s are great but who the heck has the money to pay for them.

Check the $600 build in my sig (includes OS - around $520 without, before rebates).

i3 2100 + HD6870. Strongest gaming build out of all those posted here I believe. CPU wise all are +/-2% between them. GPU wise, the HD6870 pwns all the other builds.

I'd beg to disagree. the i3 2100 has enough puff to push Crysis 2 on ultra with a GTX570. yes you will get more frames with a i5, but high end gaming on a i3 is far from impossible. Just check the original Sandy Bridge launch reviews for proof.

I agree with you that you dont need 8 gigs for gaming but it is the same price as what was originally chosen and its abrand that I trust vs team elite (never heard of them). Case+psu is only 54 with a rebate. I agree get the better card.

Sure thats the 570gtx doing all the work not to mention the card is around $350 by its self. Which in this situation is unrealistic. You can do the same thing with a Phenom II X2. Heck i can play crisis2 now on ultra with my 940 chip and a 460 and get about 30-60 frames

Wait a minute, from all i've been hearing, bulldozers suck for gaming. Did something change or was this just a big lie?

No the higher 6 and 8 core are at the moment a step back or equal to form Phenom II X6s they were supposed to get up there with Intel's performance and they failed at it . Wile they dont do what the said they would they dont suck there were just advertise for something they are not. The FX x4 is at the moment probably the best bang for your buck with AMDs new chips

BD wont run low resolution games at the stupidly high speeds the intels will .
This doesnt mean they suck for gaming . Monitors only refresh at 60 Hz which is 60 FPS . Having a cpu get you running at 120 FPS is pointless since the extra frames wont ever appear on the screen .

BD is often competitive with the i5's at 1080p resolution , but the hexcore and octocore BD's dont look like good value over all .
The FX 4100 is the exception

The price is right , it games well , OC's well .

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+FX-4...

It also uses more power than the intel , but the difference is about the same as running a light bulb so as far as Im concerned the FX 4100 is the budget king
