Is 500 watts too much?

I have an old Leonite2 P5LP-LE board, with a duo core 4500 that originally came with a 340 watt psu that burnt out. I have a couple brand new 500 watt psu's and am wondering if that would be too much for this board, since it only came with a 340W. I know nothing about psu's and don't know if too much juice would burn out the board?

Would 500W be too much??

Nope, a PSU will ony provide the wattage the system requires a system that draws 200W will only draw 200W regardless of the capabilities (over 200W) of the PSU.
You should be fine with a 500W PSU in there
