Windows 7 SP1 Issues?

Hello there, ive been trying to figure out whats going on with my computer. Its all basic stuff.. I ran windows 7 for a long period of time without the SP1 update. Since then i upgraded to it. and the issues have started to Jump into action. id be watching a movie. on BBCiPlayer and it would stop for a moment. then carry on. I do day to day tasks on my machine. Photoshop/ton of google chrome tabs open.. suddenly the machine would lock up... and i cant do anything no CTRL ALT DEL. only way to stop it is the reset button.. Does anyone have a theory in why this might be happening?

Ive also done the ability to provide you with as much info about my computer as possible

Are you opening the Chrome tabs, or are they opening on their own?

If they are just running wild on their own, you should scan for malware. Run thru the guide in my signature.

opened myself. Just randomly freezes. chrome at times. then media player. Even vlc. already checked for malware and theres no infections.

Do you have an antivirus scanner running? If yes, try disabling that, and see if the problem persists.

You can also check the event viewer to see if it's logging errors.

I think i may have found the issue. I decided to run a HDtune check on my drive.. Seemlessly enough. Ultra DMA Warning has shown. "saying the cable may be damaged" ive changed the cable. As the drives in perfect working order. so far so good.

I ran a few tests with other cable. and the transfer rates dropped as low as 1.3mbits.. which was bad. changed the cable and it only goes as low as 50-60 now.
