  1. I would say go witht he 1045 and overclock it since I think your apps will use the 6 Floating Point math coprocessors (FX has 3 shared FP units) .... <deleted>

edit - my bad I was thinking of the 8150. Let me change that to go with the 1045T straight up.
  2. At stock speeds, the FX 6100 and the 1045T are almost identical performers in games with the 1045T being slightly faster in non-gaming applications. This is reflected in the price as the 6100 is $10 less expensive.

If you overclock, the advantage switches to the FX 6100 and its unlocked multipllier. It should hit 4.0 Ghz with no trouble and maybe as high as 5.0 Ghz, if your willing to push it.

So stock, 1045T. Overclocked, FX 6100.
  3. the overclock ability of the fx 6100 at 4.0 ghz sounds really good for rendering , i wasn't sure which one to get because of the negative reviews of the fx

Bulldozer deserved the criticism. A die shrunk Phenom II would have been a better performer. That said, Bulldozer is still serviceable and a good value in a few market segments. The 6100 isn't a bad part at $139 if you plan to OC.

Do keep in mind that even OC'd, the 6100 wouldn't be that much faster than the 1045. It already operates in the 3.6 Ghz range under load due to the all core turbo mode. And even with that, its a hair slower than the 1045, which rarely breaks 3.0 ghz. Im guessing that even at 4.5 Ghz, it would only be about 15% faster than the 1045T at stock.

Thanks i read some more reviews which pretty much said the same thing, i think in the long run the phenom will be a better purchase because i dont plan to over clock because i'll be using gpu rendering . I just wanted a nice cpu to go with whatever video card i choose even though the video card will be used for rendering not cpu
