I need help choosing a motherboard

I am building a new pc using the i7 2600k and I will also use the xfx 6970 and hope to use crossfire for future purposes.
I was looking for good motherboards and I'm stuck in between three.

ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3
ASRock Z68 PROFESSIONAL GEN3ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe
ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe

Most likely I will never go through three-way sli or crossfire. Highest will only be 2-way. So my first though would be the extreme 7 since they both run at x16, x16. But then I see that the other two are more future proof because they have one more gen. 3 slot, what is that supposed to mean?

Get the ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe. Asus generally has more features than others. It is also more reliable comparing to the Asrock boards. gen 3 means it supports PCI-E 3.0 which has higher memory bandwidth for graphics cards so it is more future proof, even though most cards will not saturate this bandwidth limit.

just got the asus p8z68 -v pro gen3

and can recommend that

the gen 3 board has pci-e 3.0 and should be able to take an ivybridge cpu when they come out

All LGA 1155 boards support Ivy Bridge.
