I'm trying to decide if I need two 580GTX's in SLI for a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 with a 27" monitor. Is it worth the extra money for the games out right now or will one do? Including AA and all the bells and whistles with ultra graphics.

Main games: SWTOR, Skyrim, MW3

OR alternatively should I wait a week or two for a 7970 and put two in crossfire, or will one of those do even better?

Solution
a single 580 would max all those games if you have a sandy bridge cpu atleast. skyrim doesnt play well with anything less.

it seems swtor uses up to four cores and at max quality you would get atleast 30 fps minimum with a 570 so a 580 should be fine.

in skyrim anything about a 570/6950 will max it using fxaa not AA or AF. AA + AF equals FXAA, atleast they look identical to me and with about 20 fps more with FXAA.

and lastly MW3 well if its anything like MW2 you will max it easily.

push comes to shove a month from now you buy another 580 just make sure you have a 800w psu or greater. a single 580 uses 244watts per nvidias website.

For me, I'm not seeing the ROI, (return on investment) .... at least not at 1920 x 1200

Two of these 560 Ti's get ya 862 fps "outta the box" for $460

Two 580's get 953 fps for $1,000 ....

When you figure in the bigger PSU, you can spend an just under an extra $700 ..... $460 for 862 fps versus $1150 .... 250 % of the cost for just 10% more fps is a tough sell.

I never buy the cards when they 1st come out, I always wait fr the non reference designs.....better VRM's, better coolers, faster speeds, better OC'ing

Two 560 TI's get me an avg of 862 fps on all those games on ultra at a 1920x1080/1200 resolution and I can downgrade my PSU?

If that is the case, consider me sold on the 560's!
