The MSI Lightning is slightly faster (has a higher factory overclock) and has better components for serious overclocking, both cards will run very cool.

I would opt for the MSI GTX580 Lightning.

Get the 1.5GB video memory version. Unless playing at a higher resolution than 1920x1080 a 3GB card will be a waste.

He said he was planning to buy another monitor and play at a higher resolution later.

If you are sure that you want to game at a higher resolution then spend the extra 70 dollars for the extra 1.5GB of memory.

Well at 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 1.5gb of VRAM is enough for any game currently. At higher resolutions such as 2560x1600 you really want 2gb+.

Stick with MSI as 1.5GB is enough for 1080p

If you are on a budget, then purchase the 1.5GB one. If you aren't on a budget then why not purchase the 3GB one?

you know,in my country Phantom is cheaper than MSI lightning,I am on a budget to some extent,,and here for gtx 580 or many other components we should pay 100$ or

more than their real prices,if in the USA someone for example buys gtx 580 just 500$,we buy it 600$ or a little more. but I should check the MSI Xtreme edition price as it has

3GB VRAM and has been overclocked better than its rivals. Did you know that the GAINWARD GTX 580 Golden sample is slightly stronger than Phantom???
