Suggest Video Card

Hi, i am a novice to Video cards. Need help in buying the best possible video card for my specs - Core 2 Duo E6300
4 GB RAM Transcend
18.5 Monitor AOC
Corsair 550VX PSU
2 TB Seagate
Cabinet is a stock one. I dont know if it affects the choice.
All i get to know is that ATI has more cards on offer to suit my specs than Nvidia.
Any suggestions?
