Amd fx4170 same price as fx6100 why?

hey,

the fx4170 has the same price as the fx 6100

why's that? cpubenchmark rates the fx4170 as number 128 and the fx6100 as number 92.

oh forgot to mention the prices, newegg:140 dollar for both mycom.com 120euros for both

the 6100 at stock is 3.3 ghz, the 4170 is 4.2 ghz. they are priced according to stock and not overclocked speeds.

hm i'm not planning to oc but the question is do i need 6 cores or would i be better of with 4 cores who are clocking way faster?

One is clocked much faster that's why.

I wouldn't suggest either if your gaming, they are horrible, the worst possibly choice.

it depends on what you plan on doing. games generally prefer speed as most utilize 4 cores, but a few are cropping up that can use as many as are available.

oh the difference isn't that huge i'd rather buy the 6100 and when it gets to slow for games in a few years i'll just oc it:)
