Hello Russell_PC;

I think you need a 8 core CPU to move up from 7.8.

WEI is meaningless. My friends rig scores higher than mine

His Rig :- Phenom 2 X4 065, 8 GB DDR3, GTX 570

My Rig :- I7 950 @ 3.8 12 GB DDR3, 2 X GTX 570 SLI

I get much better performance than him in all games, So that proves WEI is crap!

Its crap because a AMD outscores a Intel, or the fact you get better performance because you are running a dual CPU setup?.....

WEI is not a accurate performance assesment, use Heaven, 3D Mark, Sandra, Cinebench, Aquamark etc.

yeah I know it's not an accurate benching measure,
and I do use those programs for proper testing, I just want a perfect 7.9 for the bragging rights haha :)

and ive got it for everything cept for this frustrating cpu! 7.8 is so frustrating cause its only 1 decimal place you know?

and im not game to OC above 4.75 for risk of damage. and nothing at 4.75 or bellow is doing it :\
and even with 8 core i7 2600 at 4.6ghz it still wont break the 7.8 mark :\

WEI senses your frustration and is secretly glad. If you continue to be frustrated it might lower your CPU score just for greater enjoyment.

One of the other benchmarks is where you should be looking to get a score to beat a friends rig.

your joking you need 5.6ghz just for a 7.9.... wow, that's ridiculous!
thanks for post and link btw :)
I'm spewin but now I know ill never reach 7.9, cus it would seem (unfortunately) that u need 2 cpus at 5.0ghz, or just as insanely 1 cpu, i7 2600 or higher, at 5.6ghz.....

seriously tho, 5.6ghz is crazy.
looks like ill have to settle for this 7.8 haha
cause I aint game to risk those kinda clock speeds just for a WEI score

but thanks again! :)

... 5.6ghz tho? seriously?... I quit.

how did you overclocked to 4.5 ghz I have a I7 3820 and asrock fatality professional... X79

set multiplier to 38
and set frequency to 120
and set vcore to 1.300 (to be safe)

you should have a stable overclock using these settings

1.300 should be a little more than enough to run at 4.5ghz so u can slowly lower it by .01 untill it becomes unstable then ull know which lower voltage u can use for stability but start with 1.300 vcore.

remember every cpu is different even if its the same model, so u may have to fiddle with the settings till u find a sweet spot, but those settings should work for you

CPU Motherboard
Dual 6-core X5680's SR-2 (chilled water cooled)

Only overclocked will it hit 7.9 though. I did a build with the exact same mobo and CPUs for a customer at work and at stock, it got 7.8 with dual 6 core Xeons, 24 threads.

Strangley the WEI in Windows 8 moves up to 9.9 and a 2500K @4.5GHz that gets 7.8 in 7 gets 8.9 in Windows 8.

Look at you guys crying over your Windows Experience index hitting 7.8 instead of 7.9.

Guess what my CPU hits? 2.2. Intel Pentium M ULV at 1.2GHz.
1.1GB DDR1 RAM: 4.5
Graphics and gaming graphics: 1.0 (got no windows 7 drivers for my 82855GM/GME chipset)
60GB HDD: 4.4

I'm not even complaining about those scores! :D

I love my little 6 year old Dell Latitude X300 barely makes any heat ^_^

I have it overclocked (barely) to 3.85 ghz. But, I am also running Windows 8, so maybe that's the difference (although I wouldn't think that it should be).

You guys keep talking about your low ULV processor and mobile processor scores. But, no one expects all too much out of a laptop anyways. . . With few exceptions, people are not using those for gaming, or anything else. With that said, my laptop's CPU rates at 6.7

That's so weird, I get 7.6 out of my 6300 @ 4.5 Ghz. Not that I really care it's just odd the way w.e.i gets it's scores.

dragonlord I use my laptop for gaming and its an ultrabook. My prevous main gaming laptop was a 5930g which I still mainly yse as my main laptop except gaming, my new laptop for gaming is an acer m3-581tg which is great at dx11 gaming 90% maxed setting close to 60fps at 720p on dx11 games as it has a 640m graphics card with a 17w i5 3317u with max turbo of 2 cores at 2.4ghz.

Anyway if you got an i7 3940xm similar to 3770k at turbo clock or even i7 3612qm 35w cpu on a laptop it will beat most of amds desktop cpus except maybe the fx8350 but the 3612qm will win it quite a few more benchmarks especially gaming. My new laptop only cost £220 and its very fast.

Also the wei rating is nonsense, I rather see the performance of the tasks I am using compared to competitors cpu and gpu ram and price performance/watt etc then care about a wei score. Having said that 7.9 score is probably only achieved by extreme overclocking.

1. Of course the W.E.I. is nonsense!
2. The CPU doesn't matter as much as the GPU.
3. Getting a good GPU in a laptop is very expensive.
4. How did you get yours so cheap?

I have a 7.7 with ............
Intel i7 3930K (Can run 4.8Ghz Stable or more have no reason to OC that high)
Asrock x79 Extreme 9
G.Skill RipSaw 32Gb 1866 kit
Raidmax 1000W modular
XFX Radeon HD 6870 2GB ( Have ran 89.1 FPS on Cinebench )
(2) Western Digital Green 7200 500GB
(1) Hitachi 7200 1TG
OCZ Vertex 2 180GB (primary drive)
SoundBlaster R3con3Di 7.1 DD
All wireless Samsung keyboard / Mouse
Asus multi drive
Windows 7 Home Premium (won't mess with windows 8 )
Cooler Master CPU cooler modified to 6500RPM twin 120mm fans
Air cooled by (1) 240mm (6) 120mm fans all blue neon
all bios and drivers are up to date
I've dumped over $2500 into this system in less than a year when i7 3930k was released, I have all 7.9's and 7.8's except primary drive which is the OCZ vertex 2 180Gb SSD which is a 7.7. I don't understand how the primary is 7.7 as it is a combo of 2TG HDD's and 180GB SSD. How a $300+ SSD scores 7.7 compared to a $540 CPU gets me?

I don't know what the H WEI is supposed to be. It has nothing to do with overall performance. It only shows what Windows thinks are your slowest components,. Choosing the lowest score as your overall "Experience" is stupid on its face. That's about as useful as valuing your stock portfolio solely on the basis of the stock with the lowest price per share.

It would be far better if it simply listed the individual components and their scores with no meaningless overall score. I have a business machine that is used for nothing but business. It gets high scores on CPU, RAM, Graphics, and HD but crap on 3D & Gaming Graphics. WEI then goes on to tell me I should be dissatisfied with the poor performance of my computer when I purposely spent my money on fast CPU, SSD, RAM, and basic graphics.

You'd think Microsoft was in the hardware business. If it actually meant anything, I'm sure PC manufacturers would be bragging about the WEI score of their machines, but since it has nothing to do with actual performance (and therefore user experience or satisfaction), the manufacturers don't advertise the score for their machines.

I'll gladly stand corrected if anyone can show me a manufacturer that actually publishes their WEI.

I got a 7.9 out of a 120GB Samsung 840 EVO that cost $99, my highest rated component!
7.7 out of a stock i7 4770
7.7 out of 12GB DDR3 1600 RAM
6.9 (both categories) out of AMD Radeon 7570 (will upgrade this to NVIDIA GTX 645)
And even 6.7 (both categories) out of disabled Intel HD 4600 graphics (integrated).

Not bad for a $699 Dell XPS 8700 from Costco, the SSD was the only thing upgraded. I'm searching for the optional NVIDIA GeForce GTX 645 that's on higher configurations now. That should place me at a solid 7+. Could go for 7.9 with graphics, but that would require a larger PSU & GPU, about $300 + higher electricity usage. That GTX 645 will more than meet my needs.

Plus upgraded to Windows 7 Pro from Windows 8. Boots 2x faster, not even a clean install of Windows 8 would make it was fast as 7.

No, he's telling the truth! On Windows 8 systems, 9.9 is the max. 7.9 is the max on Windows 7.

However, beginning with Windows 8.1, that's gone, no WEI. There is said to be a way to generate the score, but it's not accessible through the Control Panel.

It's likely that Newegg & other retailers doesn't like this, as there's probably been untold millions of dollars spent on those chasing that perfect 7.9 score. Hopefully it'll come back with Windows 9, rumored to be released as soon as April 2015, along with many other of the Windows 7 goodies. Windows 8/8.1 isn't a PC OS, it's tablet crap, notebook at best. Should have been ditched along with RT.

I downgraded my XPS 8700 to Windows 7 Pro, but it seems to be an upgrade for me, as the PC runs 2 times faster.
