yeah I know it's not an accurate benching measure,
and I do use those programs for proper testing, I just want a perfect 7.9 for the bragging rights haha
and ive got it for everything cept for this frustrating cpu! 7.8 is so frustrating cause its only 1 decimal place you know?
and im not game to OC above 4.75 for risk of damage. and nothing at 4.75 or bellow is doing it :\
and even with 8 core i7 2600 at 4.6ghz it still wont break the 7.8 mark :\

your joking you need 5.6ghz just for a 7.9.... wow, that's ridiculous!
thanks for post and link btw
I'm spewin but now I know ill never reach 7.9, cus it would seem (unfortunately) that u need 2 cpus at 5.0ghz, or just as insanely 1 cpu, i7 2600 or higher, at 5.6ghz.....
seriously tho, 5.6ghz is crazy.
looks like ill have to settle for this 7.8 haha
cause I aint game to risk those kinda clock speeds just for a WEI score
but thanks again!
... 5.6ghz tho? seriously?... I quit.

how did you overclocked to 4.5 ghz I have a I7 3820 and asrock fatality professional... X79
set multiplier to 38
and set frequency to 120
and set vcore to 1.300 (to be safe)
you should have a stable overclock using these settings
1.300 should be a little more than enough to run at 4.5ghz so u can slowly lower it by .01 untill it becomes unstable then ull know which lower voltage u can use for stability but start with 1.300 vcore.
remember every cpu is different even if its the same model, so u may have to fiddle with the settings till u find a sweet spot, but those settings should work for you

Only overclocked will it hit 7.9 though. I did a build with the exact same mobo and CPUs for a customer at work and at stock, it got 7.8 with dual 6 core Xeons, 24 threads.
Strangley the WEI in Windows 8 moves up to 9.9 and a 2500K @4.5GHz that gets 7.8 in 7 gets 8.9 in Windows 8.
i dont have 7.9 but mine works fast the way i want it'

Best solution
Look at you guys crying over your Windows Experience index hitting 7.8 instead of 7.9.
Guess what my CPU hits? 2.2. Intel Pentium M ULV at 1.2GHz.
1.1GB DDR1 RAM: 4.5
Graphics and gaming graphics: 1.0 (got no windows 7 drivers for my 82855GM/GME chipset)
60GB HDD: 4.4
I'm not even complaining about those scores!
I love my little 6 year old Dell Latitude X300 barely makes any heat ^_^

You have to OC it to 5 GHz to reach a 7.9 score at your processor!someonefeedme said:
My index is 7.9 AMD FX 8350 @ 4600ghz sounds strange but it achieved this score when i added my SD. @dragonlord12832 what clock are you at my son's 6300 only gets 7.7 @ 4200ghzI have it overclocked (barely) to 3.85 ghz. But, I am also running Windows 8, so maybe that's the difference (although I wouldn't think that it should be).

dragonlord I use my laptop for gaming and its an ultrabook. My prevous main gaming laptop was a 5930g which I still mainly yse as my main laptop except gaming, my new laptop for gaming is an acer m3-581tg which is great at dx11 gaming 90% maxed setting close to 60fps at 720p on dx11 games as it has a 640m graphics card with a 17w i5 3317u with max turbo of 2 cores at 2.4ghz.
Anyway if you got an i7 3940xm similar to 3770k at turbo clock or even i7 3612qm 35w cpu on a laptop it will beat most of amds desktop cpus except maybe the fx8350 but the 3612qm will win it quite a few more benchmarks especially gaming. My new laptop only cost £220 and its very fast.
Also the wei rating is nonsense, I rather see the performance of the tasks I am using compared to competitors cpu and gpu ram and price performance/watt etc then care about a wei score. Having said that 7.9 score is probably only achieved by extreme overclocking.

1. Of course the W.E.I. is nonsense!
2. The CPU doesn't matter as much as the GPU.
3. Getting a good GPU in a laptop is very expensive.
4. How did you get yours so cheap?
ebay a seller sells m3s and new laptops most of the time. I got lucky it went cheap, only thing wrong was one of the touchpad side left click had come off/raised but nothing major and for that reason seller listed as damaged when its in pristine condition otherwise. Anyway good performance, my cpu just about handles the 640m, its quite funny most games I play are 100% cpu 99% gpu load and I can record with quick sync using my hd 4000. My desktop has a q9300 and 6850 but I prefer using laptop to game.
3317u is ivy bridge 22nm cpu and 640m is the new 28nm kepler gpus, acer m3 were the first manufacturer with a kepler gpu.
