Foxconn G33 M02 CPU upgrade? Intel Pentium 4 640?

Hello,
Can I install a Intel Pentium 4 640 processor on a Foxconn G33 M02 motherboard?

I have the Vostro 200 Mini Tower and I'm looking for a good cheap CPU upgrade.

  1. According to the Foxconn site:
    http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ProductDetail.aspx?T=motherboard&U=en-us0000319
the board will support any LGA775 processor.

The 45 nm CPU's might require a BIOS update first.

There are 2 versions off the G33 M motherboard, I have the G33 M02 version

Also I'm also considering installing a Intel Pentium D 940 Dual-Core, Is that possible?
  3. I doubt if the version number matters.

I'd suggest an E5200 or E6600 series chip, lower clockspeed, but lower power, better, more efficient microarchitecture.

Currently available LGA775 CPU's from newegg:

  4. A core 2 duo or 45nm Pentium would be much better than any Pentium D, if your board supports it.

Keep in mind you could get a brand new i3/mobo/8GB DDR3 for $200, and it would be 5x faster, so is it really worth it to do what your doing? Probably not.
