This is for 1920x1080 on "Ultra" settings

Neither is going to get you what you want. To get what you want you would need 2 GTX 570s.

To be honest I dont know why you want 60-100fps when 60fps is good enough.

thanks would it be best to get the 570 since the 580 is 100ish euro more expensive for a very little performance boost it seems.
November 4, 2011 12:12:04 PM

In my opinion yes it is best to go for the 570. The 570 is much better value, the 580 is a lot more expensive for a very little gain.

Not to mention that anything more than 60fps is a waste of power! You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 60fps and 200fps. I would go for the 570 since you could later SLi them and get more HP than the 590. Even two 560ti's would get you up to 60 fps on BF3, and the price is reasonable.
November 4, 2011 12:30:37 PM

Yes what Cash091 said is true to a degree but it depends on your monitors refresh rate. If you have a 60hz monitor than anything over 60fps will be a waste. Obviously its alway nice to have more power than less, but it comes at a price and you have to decide if its worth the price.

A 570 will do you well @ 1080 especialy on "High" settings were you will get 60fps, there is very little difference between "High" and "Ultra" its mainly just an added AA setting (4x MSAA) on "Ultra".

i have a 120hz monitor

Im planning to get either: 1280MB EVGA GTX570 PCX DDR5 HDMI (370 euros)

or 1536MB ZOTAC GTX580 PCX DDR5 MINI-HDMI (485 euros)

As I have said that choice is up to you. I would get the 570 (which I did) because I don't think the extra money for the 580 is worth it, so I bought the 570. But do you think the extra money for the 580 is worth it? Thats what you need to ask yourself.

About 6fps advantage for the Gtx 580. Doesn't equal the price difference between the two though
November 4, 2011 12:49:58 PM

I agree with what everyone else is saying. If you have even the slightest whimper of a budget, then a GTX 570 is a great purchase.

Having said that, the GTX 580 may be able to hold a better constant framerate with less hiccups and dips. It's hard to tell from those average FPS graphs what the gameplay was actually like.

There is no doubt that a 580 will have slightly better performance than a 570, but is it better value?.....no, it isn't.

The OP needs to ask himself if the slight extra gain in performance is worth the price.
November 4, 2011 12:56:04 PM

If you want to walk around saying mine is bigger than yours get a 580 then. E-PEEN. Otherwise get the 570 way cheaper for slighty less performance
November 4, 2011 1:00:11 PM

And you can always get a second one later on for some sweet SLI performance.
November 4, 2011 1:06:24 PM

Yeah... The price jump from 570 to 580 is a hefty one... so that's why... if you have the budget then go for it. Otherwise stick to 570.

The 6970 isn't a bad card at all especially when a person add more monitors. Two of them do very well at 3x 1080p.
November 4, 2011 1:46:22 PM

Also saphire has a 6970 version bundled with battlefield 3 ^_^ you can grab that one. Sadly, the ATI league has a little bit of problem ,driver wise, with the game. No worries it will be fixed in no time :p .

you mean BF3 needs a couple of patches. The drivers just map dx to the hardware. If the calculations is wrong no mount of driver updates will fix it only patches to the game itself.
I notice a couple of posts people having problems with the 560ti which surely say the game is the culprit
November 4, 2011 2:37:31 PM

Haven't they just patched the game for these problems??

gtx 580 is better than gtx570 as you told that you want 60~100fps so the point 100fps is not possible on ultra setting with single GPU

This point was established a long time ago.

dunno. Played it almost a week ago last. Work/wife and kids I don't have the time I use to have lol Maybe I'm getting too old for this crap
November 4, 2011 3:41:37 PM

I want to play the game on mostly high i can turn aa all eye candy off really... and run it on 60-100 fps i could even put some stuff on medium for it to work because im not a graphics whore and can barely tell the difference.

if i get the 570 should i buy the 2.5gb version or would that be pointless?

if i get the 580 its either zotac, asus, evga which would be the best? zotac is 20 euros cheaper.

i just want the card to be solid for BF3 because its what i will be playing til GTA V comes out. i just dont want unstable fps and good/decent graphics and gameplay.

November 4, 2011 3:44:55 PM

for solid performance go with the gtx580

I guess it depends on the review you are using to decide:

Focusing on the minimum FPS, the GTX 580 will allow you to play consistently without dipping into unplayability. BF3 needs all the horsepower you can afford.

There is no point in posting graphs to show the 580 has better performance than the 570, everyone knows the 580 has better performance than the 570.

What the OP has to do is ask himself if the small increase in performance from the from the 570 to the 580 is worth the extra money.

The 570 will play on "High" with AA and all the eye candy @ 1080 with 60fps, like I said before the only difference between "High" and "Ultra" is the extra AA on "Ultra".

2.5GB is overkill for 1080 resolution

If your going for the 580 get the EVGA they have an excellent warranty service, and also they have a step up program.

You seem to have missed the most important point of those charts which is that they show minimum FPS. A minimum of 33 FPS on a GTX 580 vs. a minimum of 21 FPS on a GTX 570 means everything. On a GTX 580 you never have to worry about dipping below 30 FPS, which is considered the threshold of playability. At 21 FPS, the GTX 570 gets well below that threshold and would require dropping the detail level for consistently smooth gameplay. If we were talking about two cards getting FPS minimums in the 40's, then no, a small performance difference wouldn't matter. In this case, it actually makes a big difference, one is consistently playable, the other isn't.

No I haven't missed your point but you seem to have missed mine.

Nobody is doubting you that the 580 has better performance than the 570, and that goes for minimum FPS too.

Its like posting a graph showing an SSD is faster than a HDD, everybody knows it is, there is no argument there, but is it worth the extra money to the person who is going to be spending that money? to some people it is, to some people it isn't, do you understand what I am getting at?

If the OP would settle for no less than "Ultra" then yes you are right, the 580 would be the better choice as it doesn't dip below 30fps, but the OP has said

Well if he is happy to settle for "High" then the 570 will get him 60fps on "High" and that includes AA turned on and all the eye candy. The only difference between "High" and "Ultra" is the extra AA on "Ultra".

So like I keep saying, What the OP has to do is ask himself if the small increase in performance from the 570 to the 580 is worth the extra money.

Either the 570 or the 580 is going to be a great choice, but he has to decide if he wants to spend more money for slightly more performance or save more money for slightly less performance.

I know I wish I had went with the (1) 580 over the 570 card now that I play BF3. I had to make a big adjustment to my settings because even over 60fps solid using FRAPS I started feeling nauseous. Turned most settings to medium helped a great deal. Resolution 1 buy two 570 sli them and then no worries with most games at 1920X1080 single monitor resolution. The cost savings really is a factor when doing SLI that's were the 570 wins every time.

Have you considered going with the GTX 670.
