I have a resistance reading of 400 on my mains electric earth and i am told i have to get my reading down to under 200; after i have sunk another earth rod to rectify this problem and connected it up how do i check the resistance useing a dorman smith 3001 multi meter to ensure i am below the level of 200?

you will need to get an electrician in

he is correct

acording to the regs (bs7671)

here is an extract from the onsite guide
where an earth electrode is supplied it will need to be tested by the standard method using proprietary earth electrode resistance tester

basically you cant test it and will have to get an electrician in

he was asking how you test it.

the way that testing is done in america,uk and most other places is the same

electricity doesnt magically change when you go from place to place

the only thing that really changes is the voltage and how many phases/wires there are

you will need to get an electrician in because normal testers e.g. multimeters cant be used for testing

i was only using the extract as an example because the proper protritary testers are not the same as normal testers
