HD5870(crossfire) change to GTX 570 DCUII

Hey guys,
First forum post wooo! Anyways I am considering selling my current graphics cards due to the noise when gaming, I can't stand it. However I don't really want to loose any performance. My current setup is as follows:

• Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 24" x 2 (1920 x 1200)
• Case: Antec 1200
• Mother Board: Gigabyte - EX58-UD5
• CPU: i7 920 @ (3.7)
• RAM: Corsair XMS3 (3 x 2gb)
• GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5870 x 2 (crossfire)
• PSU: Corsair HX1000w (modular)

Now I am curious if I was to switch cards to a "Asus GeForce GTX 570 DirectCU II 1280MB" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121432. Would I notice any differences? My current cards sound like jet engines when graphics get intensive and I hear GTX 570 DirectCU II is pretty silent. Oh and I only game on a single display. Appreciate any advice.

@OP, Unfortunately 2 5870s in CF outperform a single GTX 570 but for a single card solution, a GTX 570 is superb.

the noise level is around 40 dba at load, 3 dba less than 1 of your cards. The fact is that your crossfire causes one of the cards to heat up more than the other one. This causes the loud noises. Switching to a single card setup will eliminate this problem and give you superior performance (since it eliminates micro shuttering, not really power wise ) .

In short, it's a great upgrade if you want less noise.

Just reinstalled my 3DMARK not used it since I first bought the computer. Here's what I got

extreme preset:

I've thought about aftermarket cooling like the Accelero XTREME for my cards but I don't think it will fit. Water cooling sounds good, but both of these options require money. Fact is the stock cooling on these cards gets the job done but they are ridiculously loud. At the moment I can only add around £50 + the money id get from selling my current cards. hmm I don't know, I've always been slightly uncomfortable with crossfire mainly due to micro stuttering. This is my first crossfire system. That being said it was a huge upgrade from my last one.

The Asus Direct CU II is great, but it does take 3 slots. If it's not a problem for you just grab it.

And the cards make noise with what 2 diesel engines?
Watercooling is quieter than noisy air. Thats why I mention it.

I got a 12 with performance preset running 3 580s but mostly i take the third one. Same Cpu

Are they running noisy with all the games? Im busy with this

Nah, not every game. Currently playing "The Witcher 2". 5870's handle the game perfectly maxed but the cards sound like they're running at 100%. Can't concentrate on the game even with my headphones near max volume, it's like somebody is vacuuming next to me constantly lol. Doesn't seem to bother my girlfriend though :S

Looking forward to Skyrim soon also, 6 days woot!

Water cooling is useless if you don't use it to overclock the bejesus out of your cards.
Ilysaml is right, water cooling will cost more than replacing both cards with a new one... seriously, just change the cards, sell them and get the gtx 570. Most of the time, the best solution is the simplest.

200$ for the heatsink + pump, 200$ for both heatplates on the 5870. 450$ with taxes and shipping to get rid of the noise. You'll need to install the kit in the case, remove both cooling solutions on the cards and install the new ones. Test for leaks, test for heat issues....or you can buy a new one with a better cooling, remove the obsolete cards and replace them.

The majority of the money for the GTX570 will be coming from the 5870 card sale, so alternate cooling is not an option for me. I plan to use water cooling in the next system I build for sure though.
