DisplayPort to VGA passive adapter not working

Hello,

I bought this item from dealextremje.com
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mini-displayport-dp-male-to-vga-female-adapter-cable-19-5cm-full-length-66481#forum

I have a quadro fx 580 card with 2 displayports and a single dvi. I use the dvi for my monitor and would like to use the displayport to hookup a vga cable so I can wireless transmit movies to my TV (got this transmitter to do that). The thing is that the graphics cards does not recognize the adapter when it is connected to the card. any ideas what should i do?

More about displayport passive adapter working
  1. Being a digital std I believe you would need an active/electronic adapter to convert to analog VGA http://www.datapro.net/techinfo/displayport_info.html
  2. That's 100% correct, however it might be drawing power from the DisplayPort itself (pins 19 & 20 3.3V 0.5A max)?

You state passive adapter in your thread header!
  4. I still think it's a passive adapter, I was only asking if this might be possible so I can check if by any chance I am wrong and it's not passive. Maybe the card can't supply enough "juice" to run such circuitry?
