Since this card is unobtainium I would like recommendations on an alternative.
My goal is BF3 @ 1080p Ultra.
Only Nvidia as i need cuda for video encoding/editing.
Want 3gig because its more than 1.5 gig??
Really don't want to do SLI as I'm concerned about micro-stuttering.
What say they!

EVGA 03G-P3-1584-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 3072MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card $589.99

You can stick with Evga because they do offer a gtx 580 3gb regular version or you can wait for the classified to become available. They do have them on Newegg but everytime they get some they sell out right away and if you are luckey you can catch one. Then again you could check out this card;

They are also coming out with this card;

So many choices.

gtx580 1. 5 gb version is a beast. and from what i know, the 3gb is about $100 more expensive.
you are much more likely to run out of brute GPU performance than be bottlenecked by VRAM. so a good gtx580 1.5gb should be good.

that said, BF3 at ultra @1080p needs something more than a 580.
it basically needs 2x570. if you have the cash, this is 2x570 is better than a single 580.

Have two systems upstairs .....

Son No. 2 - (1) GTX 580 @ 800 Mhz w/ 60 Hz IPS monitor
Son No. 3 - (2) GTX 560 Ti's @ 1000Mhz w/ 120 Hz TN monitor

Given the choice to play any game, I'm sitting at Son No. 3's .... never seen microstuttering .... Oh I can run fraps and see the numbers .... subjectively I see no effect.

As for ya question, I see no advantage to 3GB at 1920 x 1200.

As for "unobtanium" ..... 3GB model in stock at newegg

I was considering the MSI GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme which has 3GB of VRAM but then I read this review and decided that an overclocked GTX 570 will perform within 10% of the GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme for 40% less in cost:

The only case where the GTX 580 is better is in Metro 2033 at a super high resolution. Also take a look at the minimum framerates; pretty impressive and close to the GTX 580.
