On Plextor's web site I read this:
<A HREF="http://www.plextor.com/english/support/faqs/faq_technical.html#via" target="_new">http://www.plextor.com/english/support/faqs/faq_technical.html#via</A>

Did anyone have the described problem? (it's not Plextor related).
After reading this I decided to connect my CDRW drive to the secondary port of the Promise controller of my A7V. Seems to work fine...

I've had the same problem. My new Plextor 8/4/32 cd writer seems to be recognized when the machine is booting, but once win95 is loaded it is not associated to a drive letter and I can't see it.

I will try your idea of connecting it to the secondary controller of the Promise controller. Of course, since I don't know where that is exactly I'll have to reference my users manual.

I can't believe they have this chipset that doesn't work with any CD writers. I have emailed VIA twice to ask when they expect it will be resolved, but have yet to hear a response.
