Hey, I'm purchasing some new stuff for my computer, which includes a 6970. My current specs are 1920x1080, ati 6850, amd phenom ii x6 1055t, Asus m4a89gtd pro usb3, 430w thermaltake litepower(upgrading to 700w 80+ thermaltake when i upgrade gpu), thermaltake element t, and 4gb ram 1333mhz (but I will have 8 gb 1333mhz by the time I purchase the parts) Will the 6970 bottleneck my 1055t? If so, by how much? I want to be able to play battlefield 3 on high without aa on 1920x1080 and still get constant 55+frames on 60hz synced. My cpu is currently at default clocks which is 2.8ghz and i always turn turbo mode on at bootup which kicks it up to 3.2ghz when not idle. I could overclock but i'm not very experienced with that and last time I tried, my computer kept restarting and i only put it up to 3.03ghz and 3.4ghz at turbo. I have stock coolers and will buy cheapish aftermarket ones if needed to stop the bottleneck. If overclocking will not solve this, what card should I get? I don't want to do a crossfire set up with 2 weaker gpus as I can't put another one in later and because of the issues. I was thinking of getting a 2gb 6950 and NOT unlocking it to a 6970. A 1 gb 6950 is not enough vram for me though. Will my cpu still bottleneck a 2gb 6950? If so, what would I have to oc it to? My mobo does NOT support sli by the way so please, noone suggest nvidia cards as they are out of my price range anyway. As my last resort, I may just get another 6850 and cf, would that still be bottlenecked by my 1055t?

Isn't 6850 cf nearly as good as 6970 and a bit better than 6950? So would my cpu bottleneck 69xx 2gb then?

Thanks to everyone for the replies, it's really helpful :). How will I overclock to 4~4.5ghz from 2.8? That seems impossible to me, I can barely get it to 3.2 without crashing. Can anyone help me out before I get the 6970 so I get it right? Have you overclocked my type of cpu before? Did you use aftermarket coolers or water or will I be fine with stock? Please guys help me overclock and again, thanks for the help.

definitely not 6950 cf is best option for your needs if you are going to 6970 cf then you won't be notice any huge gain so the way is to go with 6950 cf.

for overclocking find out hyper 212+ or EVO best for overclocking.

I have just overclocked my 1050t. It isn't black edition but i managed to get it up to 3.4 cpu and 3.9 turbo from 2.8 cpu and 3.3 turbo and it seems pretty fast and stable except for a couple of seconds windows 7 background is black which I can put up with. And I'm gonna get 6970s over 6950 because a 2gb 6950 is pretty much the same price as a 6970 anyway.
