Hi, I'm new here! I just registered to ask this question here on Tom's Hardware! :)

Question:

1) My mobo has 4 RAM slots

2) Right here and now, I am running in dual channel configuration 1 & 3, both RAMs are 400 Mhz DDR2 RAMs.

3) I am left with 2 & 4 slots free, without any rams.

4) Can I purchase two new DDR3 1333 Mhz RAMs to fill in the free slots 2 & 4?

5) Then I'll be able to run 2 x Dual Configuration RAMs.

6) Is mixing the new DDR3s, old DRR2 for a PC's ram possible?

Solution
The point is you can't mix the DDR2 and DDR3 RAM, even though you have the MB that supports DDR2 and DDR3 RAM.

When you mix those DDR2/DDR3 together if your MB supports it, the PC will not boot. If your MB don't support them you can't install the DDR3 in the DDR2 slot, because the notch on DDR2 DIMMs is in a different position from DDR3 DIMMs.
