I've been meaning to replace the CPU on my computer and was wondering what kind would fit on my motherboard, I ran a scan in Everest and my Motherboard is a Dell inspiron 518, with an Intel AGTL+ bus type, 64-bit bus width, 267 MHz(QDR) real clock, 1067 MHz effective clock and 8532 MB/s bandwidth ( not sure if important but im writing it in anyways). My current CPU is a DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo E7200, 2533 MHz (9.5 x 267), Anyways what kind of CPU would work on my Motherboard that is decent quality and no more than $200. Also would I have to get a new power block source or more cooling, etc?

Hi

this link shows core 2 duos available
http://ark.intel.com/products/family/26547/Intel-Core2-Duo-Desktop-Processor

you could also look at quad core versions but only if you run software which can use all the cores
http://ark.intel.com/products/family/28398/Intel-Core2-Quad-Desktop-Processor

Only Dell can confirm which is fastest CPU supported-
which will be BIOS version dependant
and bus speed dependant - you can get similar cpu speeds at different bus speed 800/1066/1333,
also look at max TDP - most core 2 duos are 65 Watt
(affects heatsink + fan & motherboard and power supply ratings)

Quad Core version may use significantly more power 95Watt or 105 Watt)

It will probably not be worth the cost going from 2.5GHz to 3.06 or 3.2GHz unless you get a cheap second hand cpu from a source you trust.
