im building a new pc and going to dual boot both windows 7 and Mac

im thinking about buying HD Radeon 6850 or 6870 (is there a lotta difference between these 2 cards as far as performance goes).

are these 2 cards compatible with Mac?

mac os is Ati only now, so they should work better then a nvidia.

+1 to the above, you'd have better luck getting drivers on mac with the AMD card over nvidia. The 6870 is about 10% faster than the 6850 overall. If the 6870 doesn't cost a whole lot more ie. 10 to 20 bucks more, go for it, right now the 6870 probably has the best performance per dollar out of all the cards on the market. The 6850 also isn't a bad card and would be a good choice if you are on a tighter budget. It would help to know what you plan to do with the card like which games you are going to play, and at what resolution you will be running at.

theres is a 30 difference between gigabyte 6850 (150) and 6870 (180)...will the extra $30 be worth it?

i think im planning on playing Call of Duty, HON, Dota, and some games that are 1st released on ps2 and now have pc versions....trying to play all the games on max level

Depends on the resolution you want to run. For the games you listed, I doubt the 6870 is going to make an appreciable difference on a 1080p or lower display. The 6870 might be worthwhile if you want to be better prepared for more demanding titles that the future may bring. If you really don't want to upgrade for 3 years or so, it might be worth it to spend the extra 30 bucks now. If not, the 6850 will do fine.
