HDD LED clicking sound

My new build uses a MSI Z77A-GD65, and it seems to be working well so far. One thing puzzles me though.

I sometimes get a faint click noise when the motherboard's HDD LED lights to indicate activity.

I'm 100% sure that it's not the hard drive itself clicking (I put my ear right up to it) - the noise is definitely coming from the general area of the HDD LED and the noise corresponds with it lighting, usually after it has been off for a second or two.

Any thoughts on whether this is a problem or just a weird quirk of the new hardware? I've never encountered this before.

More about clicking sound
  1. Beware... I had a slight clicking every now and then, just like you. But then my HDD crapped out on me :( unplug the Sata cable, power on your PC, and If it makes the clicking sound, it's not your HDD.

I'm sure there are tests you can run too... you can check Seagate or Western Digital's sites, I'm sure you'll find something.

I would also recommend that you back up your PC... like, now.
