svchost.exe using over 100 threads

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.customize (More info?)

svchost.exe uses over 100 threads and tends to cause windows to freeze...
opening the task menu and ending that process allows windows to continue
normally but internet connection and ics tend to not work after that.

Any ideas?
