http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814125385 and contrary to popular belief you can unlock the shaders giving you a 1gb 6970 for 100 bucks cheaper

The 6950 is the logical step down but if ya going to pair them up some time in the future, two 560 900MHz Ti's outperform two factory OC'd 6950's by 100+ fps and two 6970's by about 37 fps in Guru 3D' game test suite.

560 Ti's ($215 - $225 each) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] Ti&x=0&y=0

6950's ($260-280 each) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] zr&x=0&y=0

Can we have a link to these 100+ FPS results? maybe you are thinking of 2 6850s as everything I have seen from 69xx series in crossfire destroys 560 Ti's in SLi.

The 560ti is IMO a better single card solution, but the 6950 is a lot better when it comes to a multi GPU setup.

If this was the case, then two GTX570s would be outperformed by two 560Ti. So, not really, that's can't work. Like G6ET1987 said, 560Ti is better single card, 6950s, however, have great Xfire scaling and two of them outperform 2 GTX570s in SLI.

I have seen this - my system, which has two 6950s and an FX-8150 @ 4.6 outperforms my mates GTX570s and i7 2600k @ 4.2.

So for the OP, if you looking at a single card setup then I would chose a 560ti, but if you are looking to later go multi GPU then I would go with a 6950.

Exactly.

Are you planning to overclock? If not then the 2500 will do, otherwise stick with the 2500k. Perfect choice.

If you really need to save money, get an AMD Phenom II or something, they're cheaper and will perform pretty well in games still

uh, you can get a 6950 to perform over 6970 levels, btw. its practically the same card... i dunno what koolaid jacks been drinking, but really... 100 fps difference? are u insane?

Thnx for all the suggestions i think i decided that i will be getting a 6950 2GB and going to unlock and and change the shaders so that it performs like a 6970 =) , and yes i will be over-clocking the cpu. Price on cpu is no big i am 2 hours away from a micro center they got them for 179.99 =).

A GTX 570 is a little cheaper than a 6970 and comparable if not better performance.

The new GTX 560 Ti with 448 cores is due to come out on November 29th as well.

If you get a 6950 to unlock, make sure it has a bios switch
