Hi!

I am looking at starting out with the ASRock B75M-DGS (LGA1155)
and later upgrading to a LGA1155 board with more abilities.
The same type of CPU will be transferred/upgraded also.. Ivy Bridge i3 or i5 k.

The Hard Drive will have win7 H.P. 64bit installed, and a few other programs.

If the OS and programs are installed, while the drive is connected to the B75 board,
can I later simply attach the drive to a Z77 board?
Or is a clean OS install needed when switching to a new board?

Reasons to upgrade are primarily:
1) CPU overclocking (i5 3570k from 3.4 to around 4.0) (B75 does not allow for overclocking)
2) 2x 6GB SATA ports (B75 has 1 6GB SATA port)
3) redundant raid (RAID1) (B75 allows RAID1)
4) 3 simultaneous displays (used with third gen i processor) (B75 allows this also)

Hi,
Just attach it to an Intel SATA III port (if the SSD is SATA III).
I assume SATA is set to AHCI in BIOS on the current board. Make sure that SATA will be set to AHCI on the new board too.

Would there be any need to install or uninstall drivers associated with the previous board?

It depends on the LAN and audio controllers on the new board (if different than Realtek).
Once Windows loaded, you can update the drivers using the new motherboard's DVD or drivers downloaded from manufacturers sites.

That sounds easy enough.

If the Z77 board was ASRock Z77 Extreme3, that would have:
Realtek ALC892 audio
and
Realtek 8111E LAN

The ASRock B75M-DGS has
Realtek ALC662 audio
and
Realtek 8111E LAN
