I have tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC several times...It will not install... get blue screen with bird on it and rotating icon...forever! Do I need to update the Bios/drivers or will this MB(ECS GEFORCE6100SM-M V1.0) with Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core (4800+) and Phoenix Award Bios V6.00PG run Win 7 Ultimate without updates?

The latest OS which was qualified for this model is Windows Vista. So, this model may not be compatiblet to Windows 7. You can try to update the BIOS to the latest from the following link:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail...

There is a error code on the blue screen. You had better to check the error code with Microsoft for the solution.

Thanks for the info. I will try updating the BIOS....
It was not the "blue error code screen".... I talked to 4 different Microsoft techs for help, but they offered no suggestions except to try installing on a different computer!

I was able to upgrade the very same model motherboard from XP to 8. Does Windows compatibility ever skip a generation?

As we mentioned to you before, the latest OS was qualified with ECS is Windows Vista. All OS like windows 7 & windows 8, we can't guarantee that it's working properly.

Hi! Though I'd let you now that I've just finished installing windows 7 ultimate on a machine with ECS Geforce6100sm-m v1.0 and a amd athlon 62 X2 4800+ cpu. I had the same problem as you described. I just downloaded the new bios from http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail... and did the update, and afterwards it worked like a charm, hope this works for you as well:-)
