Recovering from Blue Screens

Hello,

I got the blue screen of death and had to purchase a new laptop. I am curious if I am able to link my current laptop to my old computer and take my files from the hard drive? The old computer turns on but the screen stays black (no visuals display). Best Buy said they'd do it but for a large amount of money. Is there an easier way?

What was hte error message/STOP code?

It was too quick for me to read before the computer shutdown. Now, There are no words or code being displayed whatsoever unfortunately.
