M5A78L-M/USB3 Max Memory

Hi all,

I'm currently looking for a mobo to set up a small lab running Xen for our small office of geeks. Main criteria are support for the AM3+ 6/8 core CPUs, and plenty of RAM slots. The Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 looks good for this, and also has onboard graphics to avoid needing to buy a video card.

However, on the Asus website they specify the max memory is 32GB (4x 8GB). Some pages I've found via Google say that it only has max 16GB (4x 4GB, however).

Does anyone know which is correct?

I'm guessing its probably the latest firmware that allows 8GB DIMMs, thus a max of 32GB?

Provided the CPU can handle the DIMMs, the board will run 8GB modules. Some of the AMD CPUs don't handle high density DIMMs very well though, especially with all banks populated (can need manual adjustment of timings, and low memory speed).

Check the CPU support list here first to make sure the processor you intend to run will work with the board:
