Hello I use i5 2400 with my stock cooler and it gives me 38C-40C in idle.. are these little bit high? I use my computer 24/7 and should i buy a after market cooler? I

am not going to run prime95 without a after market cooler so don't know about temps at 100% load.. It hit 50C when i play bf3. If i should buy a one i am thinking

about hyper 212 evo.. Anyone know about temps for non Overclocked i5 sandy bridge with hyper 212? google gives me temps for i5 2500k OCed processors..

P.S - I use 4 cooler master 120mm fans and reapplied the thermal paste.. So i think this happens due to the room temperature.. It is hot in here. (Sri Lanka)

Thanks in advance..

All temps are affected by the ambient room temperature. So if your ambient temp is 30 C then 38 C is not out of line.

The Hyper 212 evo is a good cooler and will improve your rig. But unless you put your computer in an air conditioned room your temps will be relatively high (barring the use of refrigerated cooling in your rig, of course you could use liquid Nitrogen and have a really cool computer).

Room temp is 30C-32C in normal condition.. I use my PC almost 24/7 and that is why i

am much concern about this temp.. Will there be a noticeable improvement if i add a

hyper 212? or there won't be a difference because of room temp?

50c is perfectly fine for BF3. And might be better than mine temp wise. Because mine ranges from 50-Mid 60s playing BF3 depending on room temp.

You shouldn't worry about idle temps, unless they are in the 50's. Mid to high 40's usually mean it's just really warm in your room. Like my room 2 summers ago my E8400 hit mid to high 40s idling, and was pushing near 70 under load.

The Hyper 212+ was a good cooler(for me and my Phemon II X4 840), and it(or the Evo) would certainly help, the H60 works great for me but I would not pay 90 for it. Is it the hot season yet for you guys there in Sri Lanka? Because if it is, and 50 is the hottest it gets playing BF3, I think you're going to be fine. But if you want to spend the money, the Hyper 212 would help.

I'm curious if your GPU gets really hot. My top card hit 79c playing Metro 2033 the other day. And it's not even summer yet here.

Water cooling does not reduce the termps more than air cooling. The radaitors still have to exchange heat into the room. Where they are more efficient is that they are better heat exchangers than air coolers, and you have the added bonus that they exhause heat directly outside the case.

I run Antecs H20s on my gaming and server rigs (the 920 and 620 respectively), but I have no illusion about their performance advantages. A good air cooler will approach closed loop cooling at a mich better price.

Yep both air and water cooling system have to exchange heat in to the room.. But after market cooler is always better than the stock one.. So there must be a

difference in temp? I will go for a hyper 212 if the temp reduction is noticeable.. I don't want to invest money ( prices are much higher than newegg in local shops )

to reduce 2-3 celsius.. So hyper 212 is worth buying?

I use 212 Plus on my 15 2400 with 12.5% fan control setting below 50C, which is around 770 RPM. With this, idle temp is about 30C, and temp while playing Skyrim on Ultra / 1920 x 1080 / 50-60 fps is 45-49, never over 50C. This allows the fan run below 800 RPM, which helps keep the system silent. My CPU fan runs over 800 rpm only when I run benchmarks.

What about your room temperature? My stock fan runs at 1500rpm (@40C)

Room temperature has been around 24 - 28C.

Fan RPM is adjustable depending on your power setting in BIOS. I set mine 12.5% < 50C. If I set it 12.5% <40C, it would have been running at similar level. I don't think only MSI boards have such option.
