Help erasing HDD

I recently switched my OS (clean install) onto my SSD. Now for some reason my HDD (previous user of win 7) became local drive E. Now there are still files on that HDD that I no longer need. How do I erase all files on that HDD, but only that drive? I still want to use that HDD as my backup, but need for it to be cleaned as if it were a brand new HDD. How would I accomplish this? Please keep it simple as I am still new to the whole computer building stuff. Thanks in advance for the help
