Om my E300 you point it at something white iluminated with the same light
sourse as the shot, select the "one touch" and it snaps a shot of the white
card and saves it as the custom preset.

I have a C750. It works as follows: Put something white (photo copy paper)
in front of the lens so that it fills the view finder. Activate the one
touch WB. It works very well.
Remember to switch it off again. My camera remembers the setting from one
session to the next.

Note, I haven't used it on my D-40Z other than once or twice to experiment, but
look at pages 112-114 on the full manual on the CD that came with the camera
(you can also presumably download the manual from Olympus).
