Coolpix 2500 problem

Hi,

I have a Nikon Coolpix 2500 that just recently started misbehaving.
The screen was initially displaying in black & white only on shooting,
and just giving b&w interference on the display of stored images.
Wiggling the slider seemed to help a bit. Now however, the screen is
totally dead.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it easy to fix? I'm thinking in
terms of battery problems or dirt on the slider - any advice would be
welcome.
