Will a faulty motherboard causes a hdd disk to crash , and non booting of window

I have an old asus lga 775 P5KPL-AM/PS , which i think causes hdd failure . Is it true that motherboard crashes hdd , some people says that a faulty MB can damage a hdd . Will a bad psu cause this ?

I would go to a bad PSU before a bad MOBO.
