Hello,
I'm having some trouble posting on an ASUS p8z77-V.

I've got it down to bare bone (single 1333 mhz ram, a 650w cooler master psu (psu is fine as it running my current system atm) and an intel i5 2500k). There is no over clocking or anything going on as I've never been able to post this mb. I originally had memory LED on because I hadn't seated the memory correctly (that's fixed). Now I get a VGA detected LED going RED and the speaker going off telling me there's no VGA detected? I tried booting with no ram installed to see if the ram was an issue (it complained about no ram - as expected) put some ram back in and it complained about no vga detected.

The way the manual words it, it seems to suggest that it detects there no display attached (which is fine - shouldn't stop it giving me the holy single beep post result I want).

I've also tried clearing the CMOS a few times to no avail and using different ram also to no avail.

I have looked around this and some of other forums and this issue doesn't seem to be that rare (I thought ASUS had really high build quality :(  - probably go with a GigaByte board next time as I've never had any issues with them). However none are exactly what i'm facing and none of the solutions on those posts seem to have fixed my problem (I'm tempted to try and flash the bios up to the latest version as I assume the one loaded by the manufacturer will be out of date by now).

Luckily I work at an it company and have a room full of goodies I can use to try and debug which component is going wrong but does anyone have any ideas???

Hi,
What beeps pattern do you get with single RAM installed?
Is it one long, three short?
The CPU has integrated graphics, so the video should work and you should not get the beeps signaling no VGA.
I suggest reinstalling the CPU and checking the CPU socket for bent pins (use a magnifying glass or take a high res picture).

Hi there Alex,

I get 4 beeps then an odd sound followed by the beeps and that's it (which apparently is VGA_NOT_DETECTED). I've re-seated the cpu already but it didn't help. For the moment I don't have another cpu to determine if the cpu is the issue.

It's really annoying because I have the money to order everything else to finish off my system but i'm holding off because of this MB issue :(

I appreciate the fast reply btw :)

Try updating the BIOS using BIOS Flashback.

Worked a treat at work :)  just flashed BIOS to the latest 1311 or something and it booted up very nicely. Didn't take too long either. Good job ASUS :)
