Hello,
I decided that i would buy AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition processor which on newegg says that it needs the Am3 socket. therefore i dont know if Am3+ socket will be good for this processor too. because the AM3+ socket is newer i guess i could upgrade my processor late on? thanks

Hello hubict12;

You didn't mention the motherboard make and model.
Did you check your motherboard CPU compatibility list?
Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition should be on it.

You can run AM3 CPUs in AM3+ motherboard.
And have an upgrade path for future upgrading.

All the 9xx AM3+ boards have an upgrade path through Bulldozer and Piledriver CPUs.
