Cant use VGA?

Hello,I put my PC togecther yesterday, the screen will come on if I use an adapter that came with the GPU that fits into the GPU and you attach an VGA cable to the adapter and the screen comes on, however when I plug the VGA cable into the motherboards slot the screen wot come on.

Do I need to update the drivers or something first?

the MOBO is asrock z77 extreme 4

any help appreciated

You can only use one. In the bios is probably set to use the GPU before the motherboard.

so If I set it to the motherboard before the GPU will I still get all the normal GPU advantages?
