  1. Phenom will bottleneck anything above a 6970. Just so you know. Did you already buy those parts?

i did not buy yet, but u said it will bottleneck Anything "Above 6970" abd mine is 6950 Lesser than that.
  3. If you haven't bought the parts...get a 2500k...or even the 2300 or lower are faster than any AMD processor below 8150.

Now mw3 has ancient graphics so anything will run it easily

Just so you know any future upgrade will involve upgrading your GPU, CPU, and mobo.

So aren't these specs good enough to play games smoothly ? any suggestions on the motherboard?

  7. sosofm gave you a nice list to choose from. The 890 boards are AM3 sockets. The 990 boards are AM3+ sockets that can be upgraded to the new AMD CPUs. 890 FX boards have no on board graphics, the 890GX boards do. All have decent on board audio.
Sata III and USB 3 are a plus. If your case has front panel USB 3 (blue connecters) look for onboard USB 3 header.
The 980 and 6950 are well matched to each other. Look to get a 6950 with 2 GB DDR5 instead of 1 GB.

There's no reason to get 2 gigs over 1 on 1080p

In cpu intensive games, like Starcraft and Shogun, this machine won't do so well. What's your budget?

There are several uses for 2GB vram on 1080p. For the few dollars extra, I feel it would be a wise investment.
  11. And what are those uses? AFAIK, not many games use 2 GB of VRAM.
  12. How do you know he will play those games? He never said he would. All he said was games like MW3, but you can't know if he meant he will play those games unless he specifies.
  13. I'm proving my point that it's more than likely that there'll be less than a 3 fps difference for 1 more gig of vram
  14. Games are trending towards more vram intensity. Many flight sims already utilize >1gb vram. If eyefinity is ever used, greater vram will be beneficial. Plus, we don't know what resolution the OP is using, could be 1600. The difference could be that of medium video settings vs. high. True that there won't be much, if any, improvement in FPS. Certainly not enough to notice visually.
  15. Who really does eyefinity? How many people frequently play flight sim games?
  16. A lot of people do. You may not, others do. I, for one, play several different genres of games. I visit here to give sound advice. If believing that a 2GB card is worth the cost over a 1GB card urks you, oh well. Your very opinionated. Try giving some real advice to folks.
  17. iam buying the 2 gb ddr5 HD 6950, Just confused on the MOBO since there are too many optons :s
