Popping

I have my PC plugged into my amplifier, cable is of good quality, I'm running iTunes but the system intermittently generating a cracking or popping sound when I start A new track and it is also occurring at start up and other random occasions. I fear for my very rare and irreplaceable Rogers speakers. Audio drivers are up to date, tried modifying the sound card settings, any suggestions?

Is it an onboard sound card, it might be worth going for a discrete sound card of you choice, also think about trying some headphones just to see if there is an issue anywhere else.

also what soundcard and what motherboard and OS are you running.

I've tried both using digital output and analogue

Are you using analogue or digital outputs?

I was using analogue, switched to digital,no change

Try a different media player, such as VLC. Also, try changing your quality settings under "Advanced" if your running Windows.

Thank you all, I may have resolved the issue. I have disabled all enhancements under the speaker properties in control panel, Hardware & Sound, manage audio devices.
