Guys,

I'm so startled with so much graphic cards and respected specs; trying to narrow down some in order to renew my box and to fit it with my current setup.

I have Seasonic X-Series SS-460FL: 460 Watts PSU with following specs (I think this is relevant for GPU choice) DC Output: +3.3V with Maximum Load 20A. There is lowest i7 inside, with one SSD and one Hard Drive.

My question is simple, which Graphic Card to use so it can fit with this PSU so it won't jeopardy Power usage and to have decent graphic card for 2011. year?

TIA!
Mike

washingmachine7,

Thanks for your respond. Going with 6950 will bring havoc?

Well, I have Samsung 24" for LCD... maybe 1600 would be minimum for it?

TIA!

No, it won't bring havoc. Try and see for yourself, I would recommend atleast 550w PSU for 6950 just to be on the safe side.

Since the Seasonic is a very good PSU it can PROBABLY run the 6950 well.(but I wouldn't :p )

In any event, the GPU uses 300w peak by itself. You'd be better off with a good 500 or 600w.

And yes, 6870 can handle ALMOST all games at 1600 with the highest settings.

The Seasonic 460w psu is a very good one. It can deliver 38a on the +12v rails which is the only metric of importance when dealing with graphics cards.
It also has two 6+2 pin pci-e leads, and I expect that Seasonic has engineered the unit well enough to be able to deliver full power to them both.

In theory, you should be able to run any single graphics card. But, to be a bit more conservative, I would not go past a GTX560ti, or possibly a GTX570. On the amd side, a 6950 or possibly 6970.

Because the psu is fanless, you will need very good case cooling if you decide to push things to the limit.

Your 24" monitor is probably capable of 1920 x 1080 resolution. Either a GTX560ti or 6950 will give you excellent play at that resolution.

If you can wait, 1Q 2012 will bring 28nm based graphics cards from both amd and nvidia. I would expect them to be more power efficient.
