I'm looking at getting an X-Fi card with my new PC, and I'm wondering why this OEM Creative X-Fi card is more expensive than the Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer Retail version by like $6-7.

OEM:

Retail:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102006

I thought I saw somewhere that that xtremegamer one isn't actually using an X-Fi chip in it. Is that why it's cheaper? Anyone have a clue? Please, legitimately answer...not just "newegg pricing is wrong!" Unless that's 100% the case.

I want to get the best sound card, but I don't want to buy the cheaper xtremegamer version and find out it's a phony X-Fi.

I believe it's the Xtremeaudio that is the crappola stain of x-fi. I have an xtrememusic and it works great.

As for the price difference.. dunno.

First - It's the ExtremeAudio as Stemnin said that's crappy...the extremegamer is a great card - I have the Fatal1ty version of it.

As to Newegg Pricing, I got my P180B for 50$AR (usually 130$) and my 204BW for 175$ AR/Promocode....(usually 260$)....that's how websites go...

oem for soundcards dose not come with the drivers or cable or any software.

I've heard that x-fi's come with software you cannot dl on creative's site.

Both are Xtreme Gamer's
Save the $7.00 and get the retail version and at least get the satisfaction of complaining to Creative. With the oem all they'll say it's not supported and the oem tells you to go to Creative. It's so bad now that the Wiki site listing all the Creative SB0 model #'s has been pulled (by guess who) Creative
