Using ubuntu .....After seeing somewhat mixed acceptance of the newer UEFI standard on the Intel boards, would I be better off going with either an AMD system,,,Am-2 OR am-3? If so what are the corresponding 'numbers' to an LGA 1155/ i-3 system?
Not interested in gaming, but do need pretty good graphics to run trading charts.

The current sockets in AMD are AM3+ and the new FM1 and FM2. The FM socket chips are marketed as APU (accelerated processor units) but are really just cheaper chips with integrated graphics. I'd suggest getting an AM3+ chip and a video card in the $100 to $150 range.

As far as UEFI, it's not just an intel thing. Many AMD boards have it, and it varies from board to board. I don't like it either. I think it'll be a few years before they work the kinks out of it.
