I'm running Dual Core CPU on MB (Intel DG41TY) DDR2 which support 667/800 Mhz RAM. My 2GB RAM went dead and now running with only 1GB 667Mhz RAM. I'm planning to get a new 2GB RAM but I'm confussion whether to take 667 or 800. I searched and found if I use 667Mhz along with 800Mhz, the latter will be clocked down to 667Mhz.
Will there be any difference in the performance between 3GB mixed (1GB 667 & 2GB 800) and the 3GB same (1GB 667 & 2 GB 667) as in both the cases the RAM property will be same ie 3GB 667Mhz.
OR will it be better if I use just only the 2GB 800Mhz.
I'm not very good in writing, hope you understood. Thanks in advance.

Do you use the 32-bit or 64-bit Windows? If you use 64-bit OS, the you are better to buy at least 4GB RAM that means 2X 2GB 667MHZ or 800NHZ.

If you use the 32-bit one, then you can get either 667mhz or 800mhz, cheaper one whatever you can find in your area. Because they have almost same performances. http://www.anandtech.com/show/1982/9

Now becasue you use two different RAM types (1x1GB 667MHZ + 1X2GB 667MHZ/800MHZ), so the RAMs are in the single channel mode. But againe the performance difference (single channel mode and dual channel mode) is very small. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/PARALLEL-PROCESSING,1705-11.html

So go out and buy the 2GB RAM, enjoy it.

Thank you Cin 19 for the clarification.
Currently I'm using 32 bit Windows 8, but hoping to adopt 64 soon. And for 64 bit you said 3GB RAM will be inadequate. It seems I better go for the 800Mhz because, I most likely will not use the 1GB stick any more (after some time) and since it's complete replacement, the greater speed will defenitely be better. And I found out the market price for the two is exactly the same.
