Upgrading my am2+ socket cpu. am3 comaptible?

hello everyone i am wanting to upgrade my cpu

mobo: ta790gx128m
current cpu: phenom x4 9950 BE
PSU: thermaltake 550 watt
8 gig 240 pin ddr2 ram

i am looking at a new phenom cpu with the am3 socket. this one to be exact http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727

will i run into any trouble upgrading? or does anyone have any better ideas for me?

The cpu isn't supported by this board. It may post as "unknown cpu". I would put in a service request with biostar; maybe they will send you a small bios file for the newer cpu. Both ECS and Foxconn have sent me custom bios files; maybe you'll get lucky with biostar.

ok thanks for the reply. another question. what would u recomend getting as a next purchase? i really would like a new cpu cuz playing bf3 gets it around 80% usage and the stock fan is screaming. i have a 200 dollar cap

I'll bet your board will run it even if it says "unknown cpu". This version was very popular; newegg apparantly ordered the last ones; it's no longer sold.

What do you have as a graphics card?

i have an hd 4850. i bought a 6850 but i install it and the fan spins up full speed and does not post with it in. im thinking power supply cuz its only 550 watt
