Went into a T-Mobile store today to get some prices on a few things and got
to talking to the rep there. According to him, T-Mobile bought the cellular
towers in Socal from Cingular when att bought Cingular, and att is now
converting everything over to TDMA, just like sprint. The are also offering
850mhz phones that support dual tower connection for redundancy. ... at this
point I just stopped listening.
So here is the question:
Who bought who, who bought what, who is using what?
Does anyone have any links to some sites that would have more info on this
topic? I will be hitting google on this topic, but I was hoping someone
would be able to point me in the right direction before I go fishing for the
info.

T-Mobile and Cingular have a joint venture, and T-Mobile will buy Cingular out
if and when the ATTWS deal goes down.

Technically a merger, but Cingular is buying ATTWS.

Actually from TDMA to GSM.

Sprint is actually CDMA.

Actually dual band, 850 + 1900.

Good idea -- it was wildly incorrect.

See above.

cingular bought AT&T Wireless.
At present T-Mobile is using shared facilities with cingular wireless.
When cingular completes the acquisition of AT&T Wireless they will use
the infrastructure that AT&T Wireless has in California and Nevada.
However, during the interim transition period cingular will continue
to use the same infrastructure that they've always used though
T-Mobile has indicated that they are going to purchase the
infrastructure that cingular presently owns in California and Nevada.
