I just upgraded from core2 platform to ivy bridge with new cpu, board, and ram. Setup went very smoothly but my ram is defaulting to 800Mhz when it is base speed is advertised at 1600MHz @ 9,9,9. Im familiar with ram downclocking but this seems really low to me given I have jumped several steps only to have the same 800mhz I got on core2. In any case I really dont have much experience with newer platforms, so Im on the fence about what to do.

System:

Biostar TZ77XE3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138355
8GB Viper 3 ram (1866mhz?) http://www.patriotmemory.com/product/specs/PV38G186C9K.pdf

Before I called the manufacture Monday morning I'd like to get a better handle the situation. Like what speeds/timings should I be looking for. Is this kind of issue common. Im not an overclocker though im sure it would be a problem changing a few basic settings in bios. However I dont want to void my warrenty doing so, if that is a possibility.

(note: I did buy the processor with the intent of overclocking at some point but I want to get an after market cooler in before I start with that cause im very much a novice in that regard.)

Your ram speed you're seeing is showing the single data rate frequency but you have dual data rate ram (DDR) so multiplying the speed shown by two gives you an actual frequency of 1600MHz.
You seem to be okay there unless you're being shown 400MHz as the single data rate freqency

CPU-Z > Memory > DRAM Frequency 800MHz ( FSB:DRAM 1:6)

Would appear to be the case. I missed the fact that it is reading per module but i guess I should of picked that up from the bus ratio.
