buying DVD ROM

What is the best DVD rom to buy and why? I am looking for a stand alone drive (no hardware decoder card).

The the Pioneer 16x Slot/Tray Load depending on personal preference. All I can say is that it's a good reliable drive for its price.

What would be a better buy, a TOSHIBA 12x or a Pioneer 16x(tray load)? The price for these 2 drives are the same, by the way.
